This is the picture we did the setting description

Setting description

The tropical paradise looked idyllic and inviting . It was a blazing and scorching  day. The island was remote and free from people. The clouds looked like cotton candy in sitting in a candy shop. The island was very quiet and peaceful. The sun's rays were reflecting off the water like a mirror reflecting an image.Fish on the sea shore smelled like rotten eggs. People were tanning like a toaster slightly burning bread. Other people were relaxing under umbrellas drinking delectable,ice- cold drinks. There were mountains of greenery just behind the sand that looked like broccoli. The water felt like fizzing lemonade.

The sand tickles people's  feet and they start giggling with laughter. The water feels as thick as molasses, yet slipperier than ice. The  sand felt soft and grainy on people's feet. The tree trunks were rough and pokey. Because of the suns rays the umbrellas looked torn. From the inside  the log was as smooth as a table top and from the inside it was hard. When people walk the sand crunch. Water is swaying gently in the water as it is overlapping the sand. You can  also hear the seagulls loudly chirping on the treetops. The taste of the water is salty.

Overall this amazing paradise was an exquisite, mesmerising and  a fun place to be. This place had lots of things to do: fishing, swimming, relaxing in the sand, play in the sand and sunbathe. This place was  the best!

reading prediction- The force

The force
One day Mum, Dad, Max and Harper went on a picnic , on a wooden bridge. Under the wooden bridge was a lake. The children   splashed into the water. And in the water there was a human cannonball.. Everyone was excited but Harper was scared of the water. Max and some other children stood in line to take turns on the cannonball.. Max was first in line and a pushy kid was behind and pushy kid told Max that he wanted to be first in line and pushed Max out of the way Then Pushy Kid said to Harper “ You are such a scaredy cat”. Harper felt embarrassed and made an excuse to go to the toilet. On the way Harper meet the legendary Yoda who was a Jedi master and he was in connection with the force. Yoda asked Harper what was wrong and Harper explained that pushy kid was being mean to her. So then Yoda decided to have a discussion with the kids. And then they were all happy and jumped with great joy.
The end!!!!!! By sana and vrushti

We  give our prediction a 2/10 because  that we said they went on the picnic was right  and he did meet Yoda when he was going to the bathroom but the rest was wrong.

First Mrs Perkins gave us key words from a story we had not read yet and we had to use those key words to create a prediction. Then we rated ours to see how close it was. Here is mine.

Well done Vrushti.  You had some great main ideas and examples.  You prepared well and memorised a lot of your speech.  Next steps: Slow down a little and use a bit more expression.

Why we should save animals

    Why we should save animals
Do you like animals? Well I know I do. But sadly they are disappearing from the world as their  numbers are dramatically decreasing. By the end of this speech, I am going to convince you that we should save animals. Animals are great and I strongly believe that we should save them because they are just like us humans: they eat and sleep just like us humans but we don't treat them the same way. I think we should. Firstly all animals fit into an ecosystem and if one type of animal dies than a wide range will die. Secondly they make the world a better place giving us humans amazing sights to see, they bring great joy to our lives and lastly humans rely on animals for a wide range of food and health too. Think about it, what would we do without animals?

All animals  fit into an ecosystem
Firstly, all  animals fit into an ecosystem. An ecosystem includes all of the living things plants, animals and organisms in a particular area, interacting with each other, and also with their nonliving environments like the weather, earth, sun, soil, climate and atmosphere.  Ecosystems can of any size and certain ecosystems occur in certain places. Each ecosystem has its own community.
If  one type of animal,  take insects for example, becomes extinct  then spiders, wasps, ants, scorpions, ground beetles, centipedes, shrews, hedgehogs, and mice and many more animals will become extinct because they need insects for their daily meals. And if all of those animals become extinct because they didn’t  have anything to eat, then their predators will have nothing to eat and become extinct and it would keep going on and on forever. So we have to try our hardest not to let any animals die because just one animal dying can cause entire ecosystems to collapse. This is bad because there will be barely any animals left in the world.  So now you know how important it is to save animals because just one animal dying can cause a wide range of animals to die.

I believe that animals make the world a better place to live in and bring great joy to our lives.  How many times have you looked at a baby animal and said, “Awww! It’s so cute!” Animals make planet Earth a fascinating, varied and special place to be. People travel far and wide to observe unique and beautiful animal species.  For example, each year thousands of tourists travel to Africa to go on safaris or go to wildlife parks. People love to see animals’ unique physical features, how they communicate with their kind, the noises they make, how they move and how they behave in their natural habitat.  Have you ever been to the Auckland zoo? I’m sure many of you have! This is because the zoo has enclosures that are home to different varieties of animals from all over the world. On any given day, you will see children at the zoo reacting with joy, delight, wonder and amazement at the many creatures they see.  Imagine a world without animals…..what a boring, horrible place it would be!

And last, but certainly not least, animals help humans to live and survive on Earth.  For example cows are very important because we need cows to provide us with milk and we use milk for a lot of things. Most importantly milk gives us nutrients and nutrients are essential for a healthy lifestyle. Dogs help blind people get around with their sense of sight and smell. Also some animals give medicine. For example, the oil from the liver of the cod fish is rich in omega-3 which helps fight against ageing. Also earthworms release their chemicals into the soil and the nutrients taken up by the roots of plants helps them grow and develop.  Bees also pollinate crops such as broccoli, cranberries, almonds and apples. Without pollination seeds cannot grow and crops and fruits can not be produced. We want to eat, right? So now you know how important animals are in the world.

To sum it up, I think animals are really important and I hope you think the same now after all the evidence I have given you. Firstly animals all fit into an ecosystem which means that if one animal dies, all of them will. Secondly they bring great joy to our lives and make the world a better place and lastly we depend on animals to live. So do something to help animals. Every step counts.

My speech:Why we should save animals

,matariki poem

Matariki is the Maori  new year
Around June or July Matariki will appear
The celebrations last up to three days
Appears in the eastern sky on the shortest day of the year
R anginui is the sky father
I  wi, or tribes, started celebrations when Matariki was first seen
Kids stay up late to admire matariki
In the sky the seven sisters sing

The cluster of stars in the sky
Hearing the seven sisters sing is delightful
Eyes of tawhirimatea in heaven

Star mother and six daughters
Electra – Waipuna-ā-rangi, sky spring one of the seven sisters
Very angry tawhirimatea throws his eyes
Every year there is a new moon
New moon after matariki some people celebrate

Some people celebrate matariki on the day the new moon rises
In matariki there is a big feast
Some people sleep under the stars on matariki
Tree planting and conversation in areas are signs that matariki is coming
Every matariki is on a different
Recognise these bright stars every year

Some people think of Matariki as a mother star with six daughters
